I don’t mean that headline in the too-good-to-watch, “I don’t own a television” way. Actually at its core, Oscars is everything I could want in television; show people bothering to get dressed up making maudlin, teary speeches. I like the tribute videos and the obituary reel. Its shameless sentimentality in a black tie, what’s not to like?
And better still, like watching a crowded Presidential Primary, Oscar is fun because most of the people lose, and lose something they’ve dreamed of winning since they were born, or before.
